Spay and Neuter Voucher Program for Cats

In an effort to reduce the number of feral cats and the number of cats euthanized in the Town of LaSalle, Town Council has allocated funding to provide 40 spay/neuter vouchers at $50.00 each to offset the cost of spaying or neutering cats.

A maximum of 2 spay or neuter vouchers will be issued per household for qualifying low income families. A declaration of income will be required. For feral cat caregivers, a maximum of 5 vouchers will be issued. All applicants must be a resident of the Town of LaSalle and at least 18 years of age.

An application (pdf) is required and once approved, vouchers are allocated on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability and eligibility.

Any charges over and above the $50 value of the voucher are the resident's responsibility. Vouchers are not transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

Vouchers may be redeemed at any participating veterinary clinic. Recipients must call and book appointments for spay/neuter services in advance and verify that the veterinary clinic will accept the voucher.

Beginning in 2019, Cat Spay and Neuter vouchers will be offered over two phases as follows:

Phase 1

The first phase will run from January 1st until July 31st. 40 vouchers will be available on a first come, first served basis during this period. Once all 40 vouchers have been issued, any additional residents who wish to obtain a voucher will be placed on a waiting list for Phase 2.

Phase 2

The second phase will begin on August 1st, and will run until the end of the year. Any vouchers that were issued, but not used up to July 31st will be offered to those on the waiting list, and any remaining vouchers will be offered to the public.

The Windsor Essex County Humane Society has agreed to offer ear tipping, a procedure where the right ear of the cat is cauterized, for no additional cost. This is a universal symbol indicating the cat has been spayed or neutered. A vaccine and a microchip will also be offered at no extra cost when a cat is brought into their establishment with a Town of LaSalle voucher.

Cat Intake Program

The Town of LaSalle now offers a cat intake program to reduce the number of stray cats within the community. When a stray cat is brought to the Windsor Essex County Humane Society for disposition, the Town of LaSalle will assume the $30.00 fee.
