The Town of LaSalle Public Works Department and Jack Frost the snowplow paid a special visit to the grade one students of Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School today to congratulate them on winning the Name the Snowplow contest. The event was filled with excitement as students posed for photos with the new snowplow, enjoyed candy dispensed from the plow, and took turns sitting in the driver’s seat, making it a memorable visit.
In September, LaSalle elementary school grade one students participated in a Name the Snowplow Contest by entering a name on behalf of their school for the new snowplow that will be hitting the Town of LaSalle streets this winter.
Voting and the announcement of the official new name took place at the LaSalle Truck or Treat event at the Vollmer Complex on Saturday, October 26.
“This is the second year that we have held this contest. We wanted to make it a fun contest all around by involving the local schools, holding the voting at a unique Town event that could feature the snowplow, and congratulating the winning students with a school visit,” said Mark Beggs, Manager of Roads and Parks. “Seeing the kids smiling faces is why we chose this exciting way to name the plow again this year.”
The winning name is proudly affixed to the new single-axle snowplow used by the Roads department for winter maintenance around the Town of LaSalle. Other names entered in the contest were; Polar Bear, C3-P Snow, Super-neige, and Bumble. A similar contest was held last year for a snowplow that was added to the fleet in 2023. École élémentaire Monseigneur-Augustin-Caron grade one students won with the name Sonic le chasse-neige.
