In June 2021, the federal government passed historic legislation designating September 30 as a federal statutory holiday. This significant day, known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, serves as a tribute to the children who never returned home from residential schools, the courageous survivors who lived through those challenging times, and the enduring strength of their families and communities.
Canadians from coast to coast are encouraged to wear orange on this day as a symbol of solidarity with the countless survivors of residential schools. It is a day to pause, listen, learn, and reflect on our shared history.
The LaSalle Civic Centre will be closed on Monday, September 30 to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
