Spay and Neuter Voucher Program for Cats

There are currently no more spay and neuter vouchers available at this time.

In an effort to reduce the feral cat population in the Town of LaSalle, funding has been allocated to provide 40 spay/neuter vouchers at $50.00 each to offset the cost of spaying or neutering cats.

There are two types of vouchers:

  • Vouchers are provided to caregivers of feral cats (maximum of 5 vouchers per caregiver). There are no income restrictions with these vouchers.
  • Vouchers are provided to qualifying low-income families for owned cats (maximum of 2 vouchers per household). A declaration of income is required to issue these vouchers.

Vouchers are valued at $50 each. Any cost in excess of $50 for the spay or neuter vouchers are the responsibility of the owner or caregiver.

Applying for a Spay or Neuter Voucher

Cat Spay and Neuter vouchers are offered over two phases.

Phase 1

The first phase will run from February 1st until July 31st. 40 vouchers will be available on a first come, first served basis during this period. Once all 40 vouchers have been issued, any additional residents who wish to obtain a voucher will be placed on a waiting list for Phase 2.

Phase 2

The second phase will begin on August 1st, and will run until the end of the year. Any vouchers that were issued, but not used up to July 31st will be offered to those on the waiting list, and any remaining vouchers will be offered to the public.

The Windsor Essex County Humane Society has agreed to offer ear tipping, a procedure where the right ear of the cat is cauterized, for no additional cost. This is a universal symbol indicating the cat has been spayed or neutered. A vaccine and a microchip will also be offered at no extra cost when a cat is brought into their establishment with a Town of LaSalle voucher.

Cat Intake Program

The Town of LaSalle now offers a cat intake program to reduce the number of stray cats within the community. When a stray cat is brought to the Windsor Essex County Humane Society for disposition, the Town of LaSalle will assume the $25.00 fee.
