A Message from Mayor Marc Bondy

January 15, 2021

Hello residents of LaSalle,

We are currently under the Province of Ontario’s Stay-At- Home Order. It is more important than ever to stay home as much as possible, and to limit trips for essential reasons only. Limit your interactions with anyone who lives outside your house.

Let's stay home to protect our family, friends and community members. Our healthcare workers go to work to care for us, we can stay home to support them.

Municipal Operations

In response to the Ontario Government’s Stay-At-Home Order, the LaSalle Civic Centre remains closed to the public, except by appointment only.

In addition to this, appointments for municipal services will only be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This will be in place for the duration of the Stay-at-Home Order, now in effect until February 10, 2021. Municipal staff continue to assist residents by phone, email and appointment.

Farewell Chief Leontowicz

LaSalle Police Service Chief John Leontowicz retires at the end of this month. He will be retiring with 45 years of policing service, including 21 years with the Town of LaSalle. I sincerely thank Chief Leontowicz for his dedication to public service, and congratulate him on his retirement.

Malden Road Project

For the last few weeks, many people have taken the opportunity to take a look at the information about the Malden Road project. It is focusing on Malden Road from the area north of the Town’s limits, southerly to Meagan Drive.

We are accepting comments until February 5. Take a look at the project resources, and watch the video. We are interested to know your thoughts about the project.

Coyotes

LaSalle Police Service has reported an increase in calls about coyote sightings. Coyotes are entering their breeding season which generally lasts until the end of March. Coyote behaviour during this time may be more bold and protective of their territory.

If you see a coyote, keep your distance and the animal will most likely avoid you. Some reminders:

  • never approach, touch or feed a wild animal
  • do not turn your back or run from a wild animal
  • back away from the animal while remaining calm
  • stand tall, wave your hands, and make lots of noise
  • carry a flashlight at night

Mondays with the Mayor

I will be available on January 18 between 1:00 pm and 4:30 pm. If you would like to talk, call me at 519-969-7770, ext. 1233. If that time doesn’t work for you, please make an appointment.

Stay home. Stay safe. Save lives.
