Accessory Structure Permits

A building permit is an official approval that allows you to start construction or renovation on a property. It ensures that the work being done meets building code, safety standards, and zoning regulations.

Whether you're building a detached garage, shed, pool house, gazebo, or any other accessory structure, getting a building permit is an important step to make sure the project is done legally and safely. It's also a way to ensure that the work won't cause harm to the community or surrounding areas. Complete the Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish form before applying for a building permit.

Here are some of the documents you may need to provide along with your building permit application:

  • Site plan
  • Foundation plan
  • Flour plans
  • Elevations
  • Sections and details
  • Please speak to a member of our team for additional information related to your specific application.

A building permit is not required for an accessory structure that is less than 161 square feet and does not contain plumbing, however you must still comply with the Zoning By-law and Ontario Building Code requirements.
