Temporary Tent Permit

Here is what you need to know to navigate the permit application process smoothly. While some smaller tents may not require a building permit, larger setups have specific requirements to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations.

Temporary Tent Permit Application Checklist

A building permit is not required for tents or a group of tents that are:

  1. Not more than 60 m² (646 ft²) in aggregate ground area,
  2. Not attached to a building, and
  3. Constructed more than 3m (9’-10”) from other structures and tents.

Zoning or other approvals may be required even if a building permit is not required.

Permit Requirements

Required information:

  • Application for a Permit to Construct or Demolish
  • Certificate of Flame Resistance
  • Site plan showing location of tent and required setbacks
  • Adequate sanitary facilities provided
  • Locates must be called prior to installation of tents/inflatables
  • Permit Fee: refer to fee schedule
  • Fire department approval may be required
