Planning and Development

The Planning and Development Department plays a crucial role in shaping the spaces where you live, work, and play. Our team is dedicated to designing and building safe and active communities, with vibrant neighbourhoods, and thriving business districts to align with LaSalle’s vision.

Guided by key legislation and planning frameworks, including the Provincial Planning Statement, the County of Essex Official Plan, and the Town of LaSalle Official Plan, our work ensures that growth is thoughtful, responsible, and in line with the needs of our residents and businesses. Staff also undertakes research and complete special studies related to urban design, transportation, housing, and economic development.

The department is responsible for preparing and maintaining the Town's Official Plan (including Schedule ASchedule BSchedule CSchedule D, and Schedule E), the Town's Comprehensive Zoning By-law, and various other municipal planning policy documents.

Development Review

Planning Staff are also responsible for processing, reviewing, formulating recommendations, and the ongoing administration of all Planning Act related applications; including:

  • Official plan amendment;
  • Zoning by-law amendment, holding zone removal;
  • Draft plan of subdivision, draft plan of condominium, part lot control by-law,
  • Consent;
  • Minor variance.
