LaSalle Releases 2025 Draft Budget
The Town of LaSalle has released the 2025 Draft Budget and Business Plan document. It is available on the community engagement platform PlaceSpeak and for viewing on the Finance page of the Town’s website.
The document includes a summary of the significant changes in the proposed 2025 Budget, a summary of the proposed departmental budgets and the proposed 2025 Capital Budget. If approved, the municipal levy will increase by $4.6M over the 2024 Municipal Budget, bringing the 2025 General Levy to $50.4M. As an example, the average single-family home which has a market value of $710,000 will see municipal taxes rise from $2,989 in 2024 to $3,198 in 2025. This amounts to an increase of $209 annually or $17.43 monthly.
The increases include approximately $1.0 M for policing costs (ex. wages and benefits, an additional administrative staff, and inflationary changes), $1.7 M for recommended enhancements (ex. funding for master plans, increased contribution to capital reserves, investments in information technology and infrastructure) and $1.9 M for inflationary changes (ex. wages and benefits, insurance, garbage collection, parks and tree maintenance etc.).
“While inflation rates are beginning to stabilize, the Town continues to be affected by the increases of the past few years. Despite these pressures, we remain committed to investing in critical areas that sustain our existing service levels and position LaSalle for future growth. Our focus will continue to be on delivering services, infrastructure, and programming that enhance and contribute to the well-being of our community. The proposed budget carefully considers the affordability for our taxpayers while ensuring we maintain the high quality of services they rely on,” said Dale Langlois, Director of Finance/Treasurer.
It is important to note that the province has postponed the municipal property assessment update again, which was scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2021. Specifically, property valuations for 2025 will continue to be based on the January 1, 2016 values. This means that nearly all properties in the Town will have an identical assessment value in 2025, as they did from 2020 to 2024.
A Town of LaSalle Open House is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Vollmer Centre. Residents are encouraged to attend to discuss the 2025 Draft Budget and Business Plan with Council and administration.
The budget session will be held on Wednesday, December 4 and Thursday, December 5 (if required) in Council Chambers at the LaSalle Civic Centre. The meetings will also be streamed live on the Town of LaSalle’s YouTube Channel. Comments from the public about the budget are encouraged and must be submitted in writing to the Clerk. Send an email to the Clerk by Friday, November 29 at noon to be considered at the budget session. The entire document is available on the Town’s website, and can also be viewed in-person at the LaSalle Civic Centre.
