Major Storm Sewer Reconstruction on Front Road Set to Begin
The Front Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction project is set to begin the week of July 14, starting with work on Adams Lane. Major traffic delays are expected to begin closer to August as the project moves forward.
The reconstruction area includes the section of Front Road from Reaume Road to Boismier Avenue. Throughout the project, traffic lanes will be reduced from four (4) to two (2) lanes, and turning restrictions will be in place. Alternate routes should be considered, as well as adding extra travel time. Detour signs will be posted to help guide traffic.
Below is a summary of the project and proposed timeline:
Project overview:
-
Installing underground stormwater pipes, storm chambers/manholes, and catch basins.
-
Building new pump stations at G. Craig Park and near the Riverdance building on Adams Lane.
Timeline:
Starting in July, sewer work on Front Road (between Boismier Avenue and Reaume Road) will reduce traffic from 4 lanes to 2 lanes into December. Expect major traffic delays and plan ahead. All lanes will reopen for the winter.
In early 2026, pump stations work will begin. Lanes will be reduced again to finish the project, including final restoration work. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
Background:
In 2024, the Town completed Phases 1 and 2 of a Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP) through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process. This study looked at the drainage systems in the area that connect to the Detroit River.
The main goal of the SWMP was to find ways to improve infrastructure to reduce the risk of flooding and protect both public and private property, while also considering the natural environment. All work as part of the Front Road SWMP is partially funded through the Government of Canada through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF).
