Message from Mayor Meloche - October 7, 2025
October 7, 2025
Hello residents of LaSalle,
World Mental Health Day is Friday, October 10. The World Health Organization recognizes the overall objective of Mental Health Day to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world, and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. It gives the opportunity for all community partners working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
At the October 7 Regular Meeting of Council, Town of LaSalle’s Mental Health and Wellness Committee shared a presentation highlighting their work to promote mental well-being, reduce the stigma, raise awareness, and foster an inclusive and respectful workplace culture. Council Members and staff proudly wore Mental Health Matters shirts as a visible display of our commitment to employee mental health and wellness.
This October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. This year’s theme is Inclusive Employment Across Canada: building a workforce without barriers. This means ensuring every employee feels welcomed, supported, and has the tools to be successful. Today, more than 1 in 4 Canadians have a disability, yet 74% report facing barriers at work, 67% encounter barriers before they’re even hired. At the Town of LaSalle, we’re committed to making disability inclusion a part of who we are. That means continuing to remove barriers, create opportunities, and ensure our workplace is one where everyone belongs.
