Noxious Weeds: Notice to Property Owners

Noxious Weeds Graphic 1600x900

Noxious weeds can be harmful to people, crops, livestock, and the natural environment. Common examples include poison ivy, Canadian Thistle, and ragweed. Under Ontario’s Weed Control Act, R.S.O. 1990, c W.5, Sections 3, 16, 23, landowners are obligated to manage and control the growth and spread of noxious weeds on their properties.

The Town of LaSalle intends to destroy noxious weeds and/or weed seeds located on Town-owned properties throughout the 2026 growing season, in accordance with the Weed Control Act.

If you own land within the County of Essex, you need to destroy these weeds or their seeds on your property by June 1, 2026, and continue maintenance throughout the growing season.

In the event this act is not followed within the Town of LaSalle, the Municipality may have the weeds destroyed, charging the costs against the land, as set out in the Weed Control Act. The co-operation of all landowners is appreciated.
