Major Storm Sewer Reconstruction Update: Laurier Drive Closure at Front Road

The Town of LaSalle advises residents and motorists that Laurier Drive will be closed at the intersection of Front Road beginning on Monday, May 4. This closure allows for sewer installation at the Front Road and Laurier Drive intersection.

What to Expect

• Duration: Work expected to take about two and a half weeks.
• Front Road: Northbound and southbound traffic will continue without interruption.
• Laurier Drive-East of Front Road: No access to or from Front Road during the closure.
• Laurier Drive-West of Front Road: Access permitted from Southbound lanes along Front road only.

Detours

• Traffic normally using Laurier Drive will be detoured to Michigan Avenue and Reaume Road or International Avenue to access Front Road.
• Vehicles traveling on Front Road that typically exit at Laurier Drive will be required to turn at International Avenue or Reaume Road, following posted detour signage.

Boat Ramp Access

• Boat ramp access will be available from southbound traffic lanes only.
• No northbound left-hand turns onto Laurier Drive will be permitted during the closure.

Motorists are asked to please follow all posted detour signs and allow additional travel time while construction is underway.

Detour routes will be posted to help keep traffic moving. Access to businesses along the corridor will remain open; however, temporary closures may occur as construction progresses. The contractor (JJ Lepera) will provide alternate access options, when needed.

Background

In 2024, the Town completed Phases 1 and 2 of a Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP) through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process. This study looked at the drainage systems in the area that connect to the Detroit River.

The main goal of the SWMP was to find ways to improve infrastructure to reduce the risk of flooding and protect both public and private property, while also considering the natural environment. All work as part of the Front Road  is partially funded through the Government of Canada through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF).
