Voter Information

If you meet all the following conditions, you are eligible to vote in the 2022 Municipal Election:

• a Canadian citizen
• at least 18 years old
• a resident in the Town of LaSalle or a non-resident of Town of LaSalle and you or your spouse own or rent property in the Town of LaSalle
• not prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act or otherwise by law

You can only vote once in the Town of LaSalle Municipal Election, regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the Town of LaSalle. 

The Municipal Elections Act prohibits the following persons from voting:

• any person who is not qualified;
• a person who is serving a sentence or imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
• a corporation;
• a person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity;
• a person who has been convicted of corrupt practices under the Municipal Elections Act if voting day in the current election is less than 5 years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted; and
• anyone who is prohibited by law from voting.

As outlined in the Municipal Elections Act a person may have residences and vote in two local municipalities at the same time, in the same election, if:

You must be on the Municipal Voters' List to vote during the scheduled Voting Days. If you were on previous Federal or Provincial Voters' Lists, it does not mean you are automatically on the Municipal Voters' List.

Call the Voter Help Line at 1-833-946-3061 to speak with an Election Official and find out if you are on the Voters' List.

Once you are on the Voters’ List, you will receive a Voter Information Letter (VIL). This will have all the information you need to cast your ballot including a personalized PIN.

The Town of LaSalle 2022 Municipal Election will be held electronically via internet and telephone. You can vote from virtually anywhere, 24 hours hours a day during the voting period.

The voting period opens on October 14 at 10:00 am and closes on October 24 at 8:00 pm. You can vote from virtually anywhere, 24 hours a day during the voting period.

The Town of LaSalle will provide assistance at the Voter Assistance Centre which will be located inside the Civic Centre at 5950 Malden Road. The Voter Assistance Centre will operate as follows:

• Friday, October 14 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
• Monday, October 17 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
• Tuesday, October 18 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
• Wednesday, October 19 from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm
• Thursday, October 20 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
• Friday, October 21 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
• Saturday, October 22 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
• Monday, October 24 from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm

If a post secondary-student currently doesn't reside in the Town of LaSalle, yet meets the general eligibility requirements, they are entitled to vote in the Town of LaSalle Municipal Election.

The online VoterLookup tool is no longer active. Please call the Voter Help Line at 1-833-946-3061 so that an Election Official can check to see if you're on the Voters' List.

You cannot remove an elector in your household from the Voters’ List. You may only apply to remove a family member that is deceased.

If you did not receive a Voter Information Letter, you are not on the Voters’ List. You must be on the list in order to vote. Here is how you can register your information in order to vote:

• Call the Voter Help Line at 1-833-946-3061 so that an Election Official can check to see if you're on the Voters' List
• In person at the LaSalle Civic Centre (5950 Malden Road, LaSalle. ON N9H 1S4)

Yes. You may vote in any municipality where you are the owner, tenant or spouse of an owner or tenant of land in that municipality - but only once per municipality.

Whether you cast your ballot online or in person, the integrity of the electoral process and secrecy of your vote is very important. The Municipal Elections Act states that no person shall:

• Vote without being qualified to do so

• Vote more than once in the Town of LaSalle

• Interfere with a voter who is marking a ballot

• Obtain or attempt to obtain information about how an elector has or will vote

Taking a picture of a completed ballot—yours or anyone else’s—is a violation of the Municipal Elections Act because it violates the secrecy of the vote. It is also a violation of the Act to publish a photo of a completed ballot on your social media channels or elsewhere.

The Town of LaSalle takes precautions to ensure that the personal information of voters is kept secure and is used for authorized purposes only. Voter information collected by the Town of LaSalle can only be used for election purposes, in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Elections Act.

Each eligible voter can only vote once in the Town of LaSalle 2022 Municipal Election, regardless of how many properties they own – it’s the law. If convicted of voter fraud, you may face:

• A fine of up to $25,000
• Jail time for up to 6 months
