After two days of deliberations on November 27 and 28, LaSalle Council made amendments to the 2026 Budget resulting in a Municipal General Levy of $53M (it was $50M in 2025). This amounts to an increase of the LaSalle portion of taxes to $109.99 annually for the average single-family home, or 3.47%.

Administration presented the draft budget with a recommended increase of $189.00 annually (5.98% tax rate increase). After much discussion among Council members, expenditure reductions and revenue increases amounting to $1,264,000 included the following:

The average single-family home in the Town of LaSalle has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-car garage with an approximate market value of $710,000; this same home has an assessed value of $270,000 as determined by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). While the market and assessed values may differ significantly, the assessed value is used in determining property taxes.

The Province of Ontario has again postponed the municipal property assessment update, which was scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2021. Property valuations for 2026 will continue to be based on the January 1, 2016 values. This means that nearly all properties in the Town will have an identical assessment value in 2026, as they did from 2020 to 2025.

When the LaSalle portion of taxes is calculated into the overall tax rate including the municipal, County of Essex and the education rate, the average single-family home will see an overall increase of $149.95 annually.
