LaSalle Fire Service is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of 17 fire departments across Ontario to receive a donation of smoke alarms from Kidde Canada, in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC).

The fire service has received 144 DETECT brand smoke alarms to support the 2025 Fire Prevention Week, door-to-door Smoke Alarm Canvass, targeting a select neighbourhood in October. These alarms feature advanced technology and a worry-free, 10-year lithium battery, helping to ensure long-term safety for residents.

This generous donation is part of the Kidde ‘Cause for Alarm’ campaign, which aims to close the gap in fire safety awareness and preparedness across Canada. The campaign focuses on providing essential fire safety tools and education to at-risk communities, encouraging all Canadians to have working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan.

“We are grateful to Kidde Canada and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council for their continued support,” said Fire Chief Ed Thiessen. “These alarms will be distributed by our firefighters during Fire Prevention Week. While distributing the alarms, firefighters have an opportunity to reinforce the importance of having working smoke alarms.”

Smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half (54 percent). Meanwhile, roughly three out of five fire deaths happen in homes with either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms (2025 National Fire Protection Association).

Fire Prevention Week is a nationally recognized event in Canada and is observed annually during the week of October 9th. Fire Prevention Week 2025 runs from Sunday, October 5 to Saturday, October 11, 2025. The week is dedicated to raising awareness about fire safety and prevention, with a focus on minimizing preventable fires.
