Major Storm Sewer Reconstruction Coming to Front Road: Public Information Centre June 19

town hall

The Town will begin a storm sewer reconstruction project in the coming months along Front Road from Reaume Road to Boismier Avenue. During the project, traffic lanes will be reduced from four (4) to two (2) lanes, andturning restrictions will be in place. This project will cause major traffic delays. Alternate routes should be considered, as well as adding additional time for commutes.

A drop-in Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held in person to share project information with the public. Stop in at any time during the event to talk to the project team:

Thursday, June 19, 2025
3:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Event Centre at LaSalle Landing, 970 Front Road.

Information letters and an invite to attend the PIC have been sent to property owners along Front Road between Reaume Road and Gary Avenue. Below is a summary of the project and proposed timeline:

Project overview:

  • Installing underground stormwater pipes, storm chambers/manholes, and catch basins.
  • Building new pump stations at G. Craig Park and near the Riverdance building on Adams Lane.

Timeline:

Phase 1 of the construction, road work between Boismier Avenue and Reaume Road, is planned to start in July 2025.   Work on the pump stations is expected to begin in early 2026.  Traffic lanes will reopen during the winter season and be reduced again to complete the project, with an anticipated completion by spring 2026.

Since the sewer will be installed under the roadway, there will be road and lane closures. Drivers can expect major delays due to lane restrictions throughout the project.

Background:

In 2024, the Town completed Phases 1 and 2 of a Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP) through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process. This study looked at the drainage systems in the area that connect to the Detroit River. The main goal of the SWMP was to find ways to improve infrastructure to reduce the risk of flooding and protect both public and private property, while also considering the natural environment. All work as part of the Front Road SWMP is partially funded through the Government of Canada through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF).
