For everyone's safety, the following standard is applied for all swimmers at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex and LaSalle's Outdoor Pool. Parents and guardians are those who are a minimum of 16 years of age and who are responsible for the direct supervision of those they are accompanying. Parents and guardians are responsible for all children under the age of 10 years while in our facilities, and they must supervise them at all times.

Direct supervision means the guardian must be within arms reach of the child at all times.

Children 6 and Under (Non-Swimmer)

  • Child receives red wristband.
  • Parent or guardian must remain within arms reach (in the water and in swim attire) at all times.
  • Ratio of 1 adult for 3 children or 1 adult for 4 children wearing lifejackets.

Children 7 to 13 and unable to pass the swim test

  • Child receives yellow wristband at reception desk indicating eligible for swim test, then receives red wristband from lifeguard.
  • Swimmers must be with an adult in the pool at all times.
  • Ratio of 1 adult for 4 children or 1 adult for 8 children wearing lifejackets.

Children 7 - 13 and passes the swim test (Strong Swimmer)

  • Child receives yellow wristband at reception desk indicating eligible for swim test, then receives green wristband from lifeguard.
  • Child may swim without an adult. Children under 10 still must be watched by adult on the pool deck.
  • Ratio of 1 adult for 15 children.

All swimmers 14 and above

  • Can swim unaccompanied.
  • Receives green wristband.

Facility Swim Test

The swim test is established to evaluate a child's swimming ability. To successfully complete the swim test, a child must:

  • Demonstrate comfort in the water
  • Swim across the width of the pool twice and uninterrupted
  • Tread water for thirty seconds

If the child passes the swim test, they will receive a green wristband.

Water Slide Use

All children must be 7 years and a minimum of 42 inches tall.

Private Pool Rentals

Private pool rentals are available to book. To book a private pool rental, visit our online registration page or call the Vollmer Complex at 519-969-7771.

Accessibility at the Pool

The Vollmer Complex offers options to get into the pool with a lift into the spa, ramp into the main pool, water wheelchairs and slings. Washroom lifts, handicap stalls, and an adult change table with lift and privacy curtain are located in our change rooms.

The Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex requires that high-risk participants (those with serious medical conditions such as seizures, frequent fainting or those with uncontrolled behaviours or impulses) be in the water with an individual informed of the condition and responsible for them. It is also a good idea for those with seizure conditions to wear a lifejacket or a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) at all times while in the pool. PFD's are available free of charge.
