Message from Mayor Meloche - April 30, 2026

April 30, 2026
Dear LaSalle residents,
As we welcome May, LaSalle comes alive with the sights and sounds of spring. With longer days, warmer temperatures, and our beautiful waterfront drawing people outdoors, it’s an exciting time of year in our community. The season begins with the temporary closure of the LaSalle Boat Ramp on Saturday, May 2, to support the LaSalle Firefighters Association’s 17th Annual Detroit River Walleye Classic. Best of luck to all participants. Even if you’re not fishing, I invite residents to come down and take in the excitement, and enjoy a great day by the river.
LaSalle 2026 Municipal Election: Call for Candidates
The Notice of Nominations for the 2026 LaSalle Municipal Election is now available on the Town’s website, and nominations will be accepted beginning on Friday, May 1, 2026. Serving on Town Council is one of the most meaningful ways to give back to your community and help shape the future of LaSalle. If you’ve ever considered stepping forward to serve, I encourage you to explore this opportunity. Strong local leadership starts with residents who care deeply about LaSalle and are willing to contribute their time, ideas, and passion to our growing community. For more information, visit our Election webpage.
Town Owned Courts and Sport Fields
All Town-owned courts are now open for the season, and I encourage everyone to get outside, stay active, and enjoy another great year of outdoor recreation in LaSalle.
We’re also looking forward to opening all Town-owned outdoor baseball and soccer fields on Monday, May 4, weather permitting. Please note that field conditions are checked daily, and occasional closures may be needed due to weather or maintenance. To stay up to date, you can subscribe to the Sport Fields Status Newsfeed to receive email notifications as soon as field closures are posted.
LaSalle Senior Expo 2026
The LaSalle Senior Expo 2026 returns on Wednesday, June 17, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing. This free, non-sales-based expo is a wonderful opportunity to connect with residents aged 55+ and showcase the programs, services, and resources that support healthy, active, and connected living in our community.
We are currently seeking organizations interested in hosting an information booth in areas such as health and wellness, fitness and recreation, social supports, emergency services, medical supplies, retirement living, community groups, food and nutrition, housing, and more. If you’d like to be part of this meaningful community event, please email events@lasalle.ca by Friday, May 15.
I hope you’ll join us in making the 2026 LaSalle Senior Expo another great success. For more information, visit LaSalle Senior Active Living.
LaSalle Night Markets 2026
Summer in LaSalle wouldn’t be complete without the return of the LaSalle Night Markets, and I’m excited to welcome everyone back for another fantastic season. Beginning Sunday, May 31, our community will come together to enjoy local vendors, great food, fresh produce, live entertainment, and the vibrant atmosphere that makes these markets so special.
The markets run on the last Sunday of May through September. I hope you’ll mark your calendar, bring family and friends, and join us in celebrating the energy, creativity, and local spirit that make the LaSalle Night Markets such a beloved community tradition.
