Hello residents of LaSalle,
It was a very busy week in Ottawa at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) conference. I want to thank the administration and Council Members who attended in support of our delegation meetings with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility, and Ministry of Sport in mid-August. We had several productive conversations about issues and priorities that are important to LaSalle, including a conversation with the Minister of Transportation about E-bike and E-scooter safety. We discussed our concerns about the age of legal riders, alterations to device speeds, and their use on municipal sidewalks and trails. We continue to advocate for stricter penalties and clear regulations for police services and municipalities.
LaSalle Night Markets
The next LaSalle Night Market takes place Sunday, August 30, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the LaSalle Civic Centre. There will be over 80 vendors to explore, and family-friendly entertainment throughout the evening, including a dance performance and live music at both the Library Stage and near the Cenotaph. We hope to see everyone there. The final night market of the summer series will take place on Sunday, September 27, at the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing. Childhood Cancer Awareness Flag Raising
September is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. To help raise awareness of childhood cancer, its impact on families, and to support children facing diagnoses, we will be holding a flag raising ceremony on Wednesday, September 2, at 12:00 pm at the LaSalle Civic Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend and show support for children and families affected by childhood cancer.
Labour Day and Back-To-School
Labour Day weekend is just around the corner. The LaSalle Civic Centre and the Vollmer Centre will be closed on Monday, September 7. I hope everyone has an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing and fun long weekend before school begins. On behalf of Council, we wish all LaSalle students, teachers, support staff, and families a successful start to the school year. As a reminder, the speed limit around all LaSalle grade schools is 30km/h, so please give yourself extra time, watch for students walking or biking, and drive carefully.
LaSalle Last Call Before Fall
Celebrate the end of summer at LaSalle Last Call Before Fall, taking place Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, at the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing. Enjoy a night full of local beverages, delicious food, and live entertainment. Saturday night is well over half sold out, so don’t miss your chance to buy tickets and join the fun!
