Roads and Traffic

Frequently Asked Questions

The design at Matchett Road and Morton Drive intentionally avoids encouraging pedestrian crossings, as it’s not a controlled intersection and could pose safety risks. Road improvements in this area and the new Matchett Road / Sprucewood Avenue signal lights are expected to reduce traffic here.

The Town will continue monitoring the area and is installing wayfinding signs to guide pedestrians to the safer pedestrian crossing near the bridge.

A Right-of-Way permit is required to conduct work in the Town-owned right-of-way. This includes driveways and driveway approaches. Visit the Right of Way Permits page to apply.

Possible traffic calming solutions can be found on the Traffic Calming web page.

Finding property bars requires a legal survey. Use an online search engine to look up Surveyors Essex County’.

No parking signs can be installed for many reasons, including restricted access for emergency vehicles, restricted access for Town equipment such as snow plows, or requests from residents.

  • The LaSalle roads network gets evaluated every 2 to 3 years, which provides a good idea of where and why a mill and pave will be completed.

  • Reach out to public works for upcoming road works to receive a better understanding of where the annual mill and pave budget will be used.

Some trails fall under environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs) which boost the surrounding ecosystem. Trails that include woodchips will be signed with the appropriate reason for the surface change.

  • Utility marking and locating is a process for identifying and labeling underground public utility mains and cables to protect them from damage during excavation.

  • Before any digging or excavation can take place, you must notify all utility companies so that they can locate and mark their underground utility. You can arrange for locates of several utilities through OntarioOneCall.ca at 1-800-400-2255. The Town of LaSalle provides locates for traffic, sewer infrastructure, etc.

A list of upcoming, ongoing, and past capital projects can be found here (link to page) on the Public Works Projects web page.
