Retail Business Holidays Act
On April 28, 2026, the Town of LaSalle Council approved a municipality-wide blanket exemption from the Retail Business Holidays Act and passed by-law 2026-029.
This means that all classes of retail business establishments within the boundaries of the Town of LaSalle are exempt from holiday closures and may operate on all holidays with the exception of Christmas Day. Retail business establishments within the boundaries of the Town of LaSalle must remain closed on Christmas Day unless otherwise exempt by the Retail Business Holiday Act.
The Retail Business Holidays Act statutory holidays include:
- New Year’s Day,
- Good Friday,
- Victoria Day,
- Canada Day,
- Labour Day,
- Thanksgiving Day,
- Christmas Day; (Retail business establishments must remain closed in LaSalle),
- Easter Sunday, and
- Any other public holiday declared by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor to be a holiday for the purposes of this act (Family Day is included in this provision).
A municipality-wide retail holiday exemption creates a consistent approach to retail operations and supports coordinated engagement with local businesses on shared priorities, including conditions that encourage investment, economic diversifications, and business retention.
