The Town of LaSalle will begin accepting nominations on Friday, May 1, 2026 for the following offices:

Office of Council

  • Mayor (1 seat)
  • Deputy Mayor (1 seat)
  • Councillor (5 seats)

School Board Trustees

  • Greater Essex County District School Board (English Public) (1 seat to be elected to represent the Town of LaSalle and the Town of Amherstburg)
  • Windsor Essex County District School Board (English Separate) (1 seat to be elected to represent the Town of LaSalle and the Town of Amherstburg)
  • Conseil scolaire catholique Providence (French Separate) (1 seat to be elected to represent the Town of LaSalle, the Town of Tecumseh Ward 4 and 5, and the City of Windsor Ward 1)

  • Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French Public) (1 seat to be elected to represent the Town of Amherstburg, Town of Essex, Town of Kingsville, Town of LaSalle, Municipality of Lakeshore, Municipality of Leamington, Township of Pelee, Town of Tecumseh, and City of Windsor)

Candidate Forms

In order to run for a municipal council or school board in Ontario, candidates must file a completed nomination form with their municipal clerk, pay the related fee, and obtain endorsement signatures.

Candidate Frequently Asked Questions

The filing period for the 2026 Municipal Election nominations opens on May 1, 2026 at 8:30 am and closes on August 21, 2026 at 2:00 pm.

Nominations must be filed in person at the Lasalle Civic Centre, 5950 Malden Road. Electronic submissions will not be accepted.

Appointments for nominations are preferred but not required. To schedule an appointment, Email the Elections Office or call 519-969-7770 ext. 1263

Appointments will last between 20 to 30 minutes. 

Yes. The fee to file a nomination is $100 for the Office of Councillor and Deputy Mayor. The fee to file a nomination for the Office of Mayor is $200. This fee must be paid to the Clerk at the time you submit your nomination form. Your nomination fee will be refunded if you file your campaign financial statement by the deadline of March 30, 2027.

Yes. In order to submit your nomination, you must provide two pieces of identification. One must show that you are a Canadian citizen and one must identify your qualifying address. All identification must be valid (not expired) and original.

Proof of Canadian Citizenship:

  • Canadian Passport
  • Canadian Birth Certificate
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
  • Certificate of Naturalization
  • Secure Certificate of Indian Status or Certificate of Indian Status (Canadian Status Card)
  • NEXUS or FAST card

Proof of Qualifying Address:

  • Ontario Driver’s Licence
  • Ontario Photo Card

The ability for candidates to withdraw their nominations ends on August 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM. A candidate may withdraw their nomination by filing a written withdrawal to the Clerk's Office.

Once candidates have filed their nomination papers with the Clerk's Office, they are able to begin raising and spending money on their campaign. 

Candidates can put up their campaign signs starting September 11, 2026. All lawn signs must adhere to the regulations as contained in Town of LaSalle Sign By-law 6407.

Complaints about lawn signs should be submitted by email to the Elections Office or can be reported by calling 519-969-7770 ext. 1263 during regular business hours.

Candidates must remove their signs by 11:59 pm on October 29, 2026.

Yes. Candidates, or their representatives, are permitted to canvas door-to-door in apartments and condos between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.

No, according to section 88.20 (8) of the Municipal Elections Act, the cost of parties and gifts of appreciation after the close of voting do not count towards your regular expense limit for the election. However, these costs are subject to a separate expense limit established in section 88.20 (9) of the MEA.
